While Lions quarterback Jared Goff is having his greatest statistical 12 months since his Pro Bowl seasons in 2017 and 2018, QB is a place Detroit might look to improve subsequent season, according to The Athletic’s Mike Sando.
In a latest column, Sando dissected the quarterback futures of all 32 NFL groups, and he listed the Lions as considered one of eight groups that could possibly be on the lookout for a brand new sign caller subsequent season.
“The Lions got their current quarterback, Jared Goff, from the Rams,” Sando wrote. “They could get their next one via the Rams as well, given that Detroit holds Los Angeles’ first-round pick in 2023 (currently sixth). Goff’s contract becomes easy for the Lions to escape after this season. He has played well enough for the Lions to stay the course, but if the Lions are on the rise, the 2023 draft could be their last chance (for a while) to select a quarterback near the top.”
Goff ranks ninth in passing yards (2,682) and touchdowns (17), twelfth in passer score (93.5), and twenty third in completion share (63.7) this season. He’s on tempo for his most passing yards since 2019 and most touchdowns since 2018.
As of Tuesday morning, Detroit has the No. 3 and 13 picks within the first spherical of the 2023 NFL Draft, which options loads of QBs ranked within the high 100 together with Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Alabama’s Bryce Young, Kentucky’s Will Levis, Florida’s Anthony Richardson, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, and Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke.
