Brind’Amour’s resignation comes as Hockey Canada has been under intense scrutiny and criticism since May when allegations of sexual assault have been made public in a lawsuit that the group settled. In the grievance, filed in April in Ontario Superior Court, a lady alleged that she was assaulted by eight players in a London, Ont., lodge room following a Hockey Canada Foundation occasion in June 2018. Members of Canada’s gold medal-winning world junior workforce have been amongst these accused of assault within the lawsuit.

Brind’Amour was first elected as chair of the board of administrators in 2018 on a two-year time period. In 2020, he returned for a second time period, which was slated to finish in November.
